The unit is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. 

Undergraduate:

• Lectures 4th year
• Bedside tutorials: 3rd and 4th year students

Postgraduate

• The Department contributes to the professional training of registrars in internal medicine who are registered for the M Med degree in Medicine
• Supervision of postgraduate students for Masters and Doctoral degrees
• Sub-speciality training for the Certificate in Pulmonology

The Department is accredited for sub-speciality training in Pulmonology by the Health Professions Council of South Africa
